Why this matters

A sudden cardiac arrest can happen to anyone, at any time. For those nearby—whether giving CPR, assisting the patient, or simply witnessing the event—it can be frightening, overwhelming, and deeply traumatic.

Family members, friends, or even strangers often step in to perform CPR before medical teams arrive. While this vital action saves lives, the experience can leave people with difficult emotions, unanswered questions, or feelings of doubt.

Common worries include:

  • “Did I do CPR correctly?”
  • “Could I have done something differently?”
  • “Why did the ambulance crew use that equipment?”

These questions can be hard to process alone.

What Heart to Heart offers

Heart to Heart provides a safe, supportive space where you can:

  • Talk openly with trained peers about your experience.
  • Learn more about sudden cardiac arrest and what happens during those first critical minutes.
  • Ask questions about CPR, treatment, and equipment used by first responders and ambulance crews.
  • Gain reassurance and confidence from members of the Rossendale Community First Responder team, who will be on hand to demonstrate CPR and answer any concerns.

Working together for Rossendale

The Heart to Heart initiative is part of the Safer Rossendale programme and is proudly supported by:

  • Rossendale Borough Council
  • The UK Resuscitation Council
