On Friday 24th April 2026, Dawn Taylor BEM was formally presented with her British Empire Medal in the magnificent Shire Hall at Lancaster Castle—a setting rich in history and significance.

Dawn was recognised in the 2026 New Year Honours List for her outstanding services to the community of Rossendale. This honour reflects not only her many years of dedicated service as a Community First Responder, but also her pivotal role in founding and sustaining Community Defibrillators for Rossendale (CDfR)—an initiative that continues to make a life-saving difference across the valley.

The British Empire Medal, part of the wider honours system established during the reign of King George V, is awarded for meritorious civil service and recognises individuals whose contributions have had a meaningful impact at a local level. Dawn’s work exemplifies this spirit of service and community commitment.

The presentation was conducted by the Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire within the historic Shire Hall—an awe-inspiring chamber that served as an active courtroom for over two centuries. Its grandeur and heritage provided a fitting backdrop for such a significant and personal moment of recognition.

Following the ceremony, Dawn joined seven fellow British Empire Medal recipients and their invited guests for a reception within the hall. Guests were invited to explore the space, reflect on the occasion, and enjoy light refreshments, creating a warm and celebratory atmosphere befitting the achievements being honoured.

This special day marks a proud moment for Dawn, her family, colleagues, and the wider Rossendale community—recognising not just past contributions, but the lasting legacy of her work in helping to protect and support others.
